Activities
My research activities focus on the ecological and environmental dynamics of plankton communities, particularly phytoplankton, and their role as indicators of water quality, ecosystem health, and marine environmental change.

Building on my B.Sc. in Marine Biology and M.Sc. in Marine Pollution and Management, both of which centered on phytoplankton ecology, my studies have explored how variations in plankton composition and abundance can reflect the physicochemical state of aquatic environments. Through these investigations, I aim to provide insights into how pollution, nutrient enrichment, and climate variability influence plankton structure and productivity.

I employ both field sampling and laboratory analyses to assess plankton diversity, abundance, and distribution across different water bodies. Using plankton as biological indicators, my work helps to interpret the “ecological picture” of what happens within aquatic systems, from nutrient cycling and primary production to pollution assessment and ecosystem resilience.

Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Marine Biology at the Department of Marine Science, University of Lagos, where my ongoing research deepens understanding of carbon plankton dynamics, water quality monitoring, and biological assessment frameworks for coastal and estuarine environments in the Lagos Lagoon and Nigeria’s North Atlantic (Gulf of Guinea) region.

My broader research interests lie in:
  •     Marine and freshwater plankton ecology
  •     Water quality and pollution assessment
  •     Biological indicators and environmental monitoring
  •     Marine ecosystem management and conservation
  •     Ocean productivity and biogeochemical cycles
Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to sustainable marine resource management and improved understanding of how plankton communities respond to environmental change, pollution, and climate-related stressors in tropical aquatic ecosystems.
