Activities
As a researcher with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources in Freetown, I am conducting a study titled “Climate Change Impacts on Fisheries and Socioeconomic Resilience in Sierra Leone’s Coastal Communities.” My work involves gathering climatological data, analyzing fish stock trends, evaluating fisheries policies, and assessing the economic effects of environmental changes on both artisanal and industrial sectors.
I engage directly with fishing communities, collaborate with government and international stakeholders, and aim to produce practical recommendations for sustainable fisheries management and climate adaptation. This research will lead to a policy brief and a stakeholder workshop where I will present findings and foster dialogue for evidence-based decision-making.
Skills
To carry out this research, I rely on strong quantitative and analytical skills to interpret climate and fisheries data. My field research experience allows me to connect with coastal communities and understand their challenges firsthand. I use GIS and remote sensing tools to map climate impacts, and I apply economic and policy analysis to evaluate trade-offs and propose effective interventions.
Clear communication and writing skills are essential for producing reports and policy briefs, while my ability to collaborate and engage stakeholders ensures that my research remains relevant and impactful.
