Activities
I am a deep-sea
ecologist focused on the ecology of circalittoral and bathyal
benthic habitats of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean using underwater images. More specifically, I quantitatively characterize benthic invertebrate
communities, identify their ecological niche, assess the effects of human
activities (e.g., commercial fishing, litter, climate change) and map their
spatial distribution using habitat suitability models. I have also developed
cost-effective imaging tools for the exploration of benthic habitats down to
1,000 m depth, such as the Azor drift-cam.
