Professor Jose María Bellido (Madrid, 1970). Along my entire life I have been interested in how to understand nature and particularly the sea, which led me to ecology and numerical modeling. Currently I work at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, in its Oceanographic Centre of Murcia, and I have now more than 25 years of experience in marine and fisheries research. I studied Marine Sciences at the University of Cadiz (Spain), where I achieved my Bachelor (1994) and MSc (1996). Afterwards I moved abroad and I acquired my PhD (1997/2002) at the Department of Zoology of University of Aberdeen (Scotland, UK), one of the best European universities in marine sciences.
Sea regions of study
Mediterranean Sea - Western Basin
Mediterranean Sea - Eastern Basin
North Atlantic Ocean
South Atlantic Ocean
Global
Skills
My main research fields are spatial modeling (using spatial stats and GIS tools) and stock assessment, with experience in Atlantic and Mediterranean stocks (ICES and GFCM WGs). I have been working both with demersal and pelagic resources and I also have been involved in discards research, quite important due to the EU policy of reduction of discards.
