As a Graduate Research Assistant for the Caribbean Coastal Ocean Observing System (CARICOOS) I work mostly assessing and validation numerical operational models in the region against various observational assets (e.g. instrumented buoys, drifters, HF radars, satellite products, CTD, ADCP, etc.). The main objective of this work is to find sources of errors within the operational models in order to choose the best parent model boundary conditions for our in-house hydrodynamic numerical model. And as part of a CARICOOS/UPRM collaboration with AOML/NOAA I conduct the refurbishment, field activities and part of the research work of data from SeaGliders north and south of Puerto Rico. The main objective of the collaboration is to improve the forecast of tropical hurricane intensification models.
