I have been working for the real-time storm surge modeling for Indian coasts since 2012. I have played a major role in setting up of real-time Storm Surge Warning System (SSWS).
SSWS is initially used for experimental storm surge and inundation guidance during the very severe cyclonic storm ‘Phailin’ (October 2013). After the successful forecast during ‘Phailin’, SSWS was the first time was used for the real-time surge and inundation guidance during the very severe cyclonic storm ‘Hudhud’ (October 2014). SSWS has proven its potential during these two events. SSWS was recently used for the surge guidance for the cyclonic storm ‘Roanu’ over the Bay of Bengal.
Since a year, I am also working for Tsunami modeling. We are now coming up with the new modeling approach for model tsunami propagation as well as inland inundation.
