Major research activities centre around the ecophysiology of algae with particular regard to the mechanisms of acquisition of inorganic carbon by these organisms. Other interests include (i)the interactions between inorganic carbon acquisition and the availability of other nutrients such as N and Fe; (ii)the effects of climate change on the physiology and productivity of phytoplankton and iii)productivity and ecophysiology of benthic microalgae.
