Amiguitos del Oceano works directly in coastal communities’ schools by implementing an educational program addressing one of the worst environmental issues we are facing worldwide: plastic pollution. We are tackling this issue thru education, but in a different way. We seek to reduce and prevent ocean pollution by plastics through ocean literacy, encouraging people to change practices and habits that help the conservation of ecosystems, biodiversity and human health. We implement innovative methodologies to understand why it is so important to take care of the ocean, so local communities can also be part of the management and conservation of our environment through an education with an affective, playful, practical, intercultural, holistic approach that promotes responsible consumption in the population and empathy with our environment.

Our Foundation is aligned with SDG 14 to “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”, through the implementation of an Environmental Education Program executed free of charge in public schools in coastal communities.

This Program aims to:
-To emotionally connect children and adults with the sea, for an understanding of the ocean's goods and services.

-To sensitize and educate citizens about the problem and consequences of poor management of solid waste and debris present in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
-Encourage the change of habits in the population to reduce the use of disposable plastics

-Promote good practices and responsible consumption.

Through the implementation of the Program, it contributes to Goal 14.1 “By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular that produced by activities carried out on land, including marine debris and pollution by nutrients. ”.
