Activities
Kedah Meteorological Office was established around 1970 at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Alor Setar, Kedah.
Kedah Meteorological Office includes 2 principal meteorological stations in Langkawi and Alor Setar and 1 meteorological radar station in Hutan Kampung Alor Setar.
The offices responsibilities are to continuously monitor the weather situation and provide meteorological data for northern regions in the Peninsular Malaysia.
The number of employees for the whole operation of the offices are 20 staffs.
In addition, Kedah Meteorological Office is also responsible for overseeing the operations of components of the National Tsunami Early Warning System Malaysia (SAATNM).
Among the components were 8 tsunami sirens and 4 seismic stations.
Siren system and the seismic stations play a major role in preparing the country in the event of earthquake and tsunami.
