The Pilot Project on Wave measurement Evaluation and Test (PP-WET: http://www.jcomm.info/wet ) that was developed during the New York workshop (1-2 October 2008) was subsequently approved by the 24th Session of the Data Buoy Cooperation Panel (DBCP-XXIV) in Capetown, South Africa 13-16 October 2008. The second Pilot Project on Wave Measurements from Drifting buoys (PP-WMD) was also approved at the same DBCP session. A Pilot Project Steering Committee is being held at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, with the objective of advancing the tentative work plan endorsed by DBCP-XXIV. The focus of this meeting will be given to refining year-1 of the workplan, and achieving some short term results to be presented in the status report to DBCP-XXV (28 September - 1 October 2009, Paris). The Steering Committee will review and update the following; 1) work plan and membership; 2) status of individual test and evaluation activities; 3) procedures agreed at the New York workshop for evaluation of directional and non-directional wave measurement evaluation; and 4) ways to most effectively carry out the comparisons in a standardized manner.
