The UNESCO/IOC Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme is a key for achieving the Safe Ocean objective of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Under the auspices of the UN Decade Tsunami Programme, Tsunami Ready aims to increase community resilience to ocean hazards in all oceans, and to ensure that 100% of communities at risk of tsunami are prepared for and resilient to tsunamis by 2030. The Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme, actioned through Country National Tsunami Ready Programmes, seeks to build resilient communities through tsunami awareness, preparedness, and response strategies that will protect lives, livelihoods and property from tsunami.

The Fiji Government. with the kind support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and its International Tsunami Information Centre (a joint partnership between the IOC and NOAA), will conduct its first Fiji Tsunami Ready Stakeholder Workshop on 8-9 February 2023 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, Fiji.  Invited participants will be Fiji government agencies, non-governmental organizations supporting community preparedness, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.
