Established in 2005 by the IOC Assembly through Resolution XXIII-13, the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS) includes a PTWS Steering Committee (PTWS SC) which act in an advisory capacity to the Chair of the ICG/PTWS during the inter-sessional period. It coordinates and integrate the work of ICG/PTWS in the inter-sessional periods, as implemented through the various technical and regional working groups and task teams, including but not limited to: a) Maintain the PTWS Medium Term Strategic Plan b) Monitor, maintain and update the PTWS Implementation Plan c) Develop a Strategy for funding PTWS activities d) Monitor the performance of the PTWS. Following the decision to cancel the in-person PTWS SC session with an online meeting, the board of PTWS + ITIC decided to host an online session on June 16-18, 2020. Main items discussed at this meeting included the holding of a PacWave 2020 exercise, a draft PTWS Medium Term Strategy 2022-2029 and the PTWS contribution to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
