This project seeks to build on existing regional programming frameworks and address gaps to strengthen the capacities of early warning and response for tsunamis and other coastal hazards in the Caribbean. This project is being implemented by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO/IOC) with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) (lead) and other supporting agencies. Four (4) CDEMA Participating States (PS) were identified as direct beneficiaries to this project: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago. The key components of the project include: A. A two-day National Tsunami Workshop which would result in the adaptation of national tsunami protocols and guidelines, a key output of the Regional Tsunami Workshop. B. Educational awareness, EWS equipping, and Tsunami SOPs development with the Union Island community C. A Tsunami Simulation exercise in the Union Island community to test both the National Tsunami Protocol and the community Protocol The project objectives for the national drill were as follows: i. To exercise the National Tsunami Protocols and SOPs; ii. To exercise the Community Tsunami Hazard Protocols and SOPs – Union Island Communities; iii. To raise awareness on the Tsunami Hazard in Union Island;
