Ocean, weather and climate: Science at the service of society Breakwater Lodge, Cape Town 10-12 March 2020 For the 10th anniversary of the Nansen Tutu Centre for Marine Environment Research, we are organizing a symposium at the Breakwater Lodge, situated at the waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa on 10 - 12 of March 2020. It will run in parallel with the GOOS Physics and Climate Panel (GCOS-GOOS-WCRP Ocean Observations Physics and Climate panel). Main themes will be regional oceanography, operational oceanography, role of the ocean on climate and weather, regional marine ecosystem, air sea interaction, Southern Ocean, biogeochemistry and the CO2 cycle. We plan to have several invited presentations on the first day on a variety of topics then move on to more focused topic. We will give centre stage to African students and early career scientist. The Symposium is endorsed by CLIVAR. We have several invited presentations on the first day then we move on to more focused sessions. We are looking for funding to waive registration for students.
