At its 11th session, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 18–20 April 2017, the Intergovernmental Coordination Group (ICG) for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) decided to hold integrated meetings of the Working Groups, SOP training workshops, post-IOWave workshops and IOTIC workshops to optimise resources. The first of these integrated meetings will be held in BMKG, Jakarta during 4–17 September 2017 and will include the following meetings: • September 4 – 5, 2017: Task Team on Capacity Assessment of Tsunami Preparedness (Task Team Members) • September 6 – 8, 2017: Indian Ocean Tsunami Ready (IOTR) Workshop (NDMOs of all 24 active IOTWMS Member States) • September 9, 2017: WG-1 Inter-sessional Meeting (WG-1 Members) • September 11 – 14, 2017: NTWC – DMO SOP Workshop (DMOs and NTWCs of 10-12 North & Eastern Indian Ocean Member States) • September 15, 2017: WG-2 Inter-sessional Meeting (WG-2 Members) • September 16, 2017 FN: IOWave 18 Task Team Meeting (Task Team Members) • September 16 AN - Sep 17, 2017: IOTWMS Steering Group Meeting (Steering Group Members) The IOTR workshop to be held during 6–8 September 2017 will follow up on recommendations from the 10th Session of the Working Group on Tsunamis and Other Hazards related to Sea-Level Warning and Mitigation Systems (TOWS-WG) and 11th Session of the ICG/IOTWMS to pilot CARIBE-EWS Tsunami Ready guidelines in other ocean basins with a view to develop harmonized consistent global guidelines. CARIBE-EWS Tsunami Ready is a performance-based community recognition programme to enhance preparedness and response to tsunami threats. The workshop will explore how the existing guidelines can be adapted to best fit Indian Ocean communities and how pilot implementation can be undertaken in interested Member States. The SOP Workshop for tsunami warning and emergency response will be held during 11–14 September 2017. The primary goals of the workshop will be: to assist the ICG/IOTWMS Member States to develop integrated end-to-end SOPs for tsunami warning and emergency response; to assist National/Local Disaster Management Organisations (DMOs) to develop SOPs for implementing national and local responses to tsunami warnings issued by the National Tsunami Warning Centres (NTWCs); and to prepare Member States to conduct the IOWave18 Exercise scheduled to be held in September 2018.
