The Second Maritime Safety Services Enhancement Workshop (MSS-2) will be held from 18 to 22 August 2014, at the conference room of the Amora Hotel, Wellington, New Zealand, at the kind invitation of the MetService of New Zealand and the Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). Following the First MSS workshop (May 2010, Melbourne, Australia), this event is organized with the goals of;
- enhancing the quality of marine forecast and warning services provided in the framework of the IMO/WMO Worldwide Metocean Information and Warning Service (WWMIWS), in support of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) ;
- sharing techniques for the application of the Marine Weather Forecasters Competence Framework, which is under preparation by WMO through the experts of JCOMM, for the preparation and delivery of meteorological MSI services;
- in particular, through a joint session with the Sixth Meeting of the World-Wide Navigational Warning Service Sub Committee (WWNWS-6) of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), stimulating interaction between METAREA and NAVAREA Coordinators for quality-assured and consistent service provision for safety at sea. A joint session of METAREA and NAVAREA Coordinators is anticipated on 19 August 2014.
This event is jointly organized by WMO and International Hydrographic Bureau(IHB). The documents concerning logistical information (including the hotel reservation form) are prepared by the Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) for both WWNWS-6 and MSS-2. Participants are expected to make their own accommodation arrangements, by using the provided information (see here).
